Job description

Our client, a New York-based design firm specializing in high-end residential and commercial spaces, is seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Design Assistant to support their growing team. This role blends design coordination, project management, and administrative support, making it ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced, collaborative environment where aesthetics and functionality go hand in hand.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with the execution of residential and commercial design projects from concept through completion

  • Interpret architectural drawings and perform accurate take-offs

  • Create mood boards, presentations, and compile detailed purchasing sheets

  • Coordinate with renderers, drafters, and project collaborators to ensure design alignment

  • Communicate with vendors to source, order, and track materials

  • Support project scheduling, tracking, and overall coordination across multiple projects

  • Ensure alignment between design intent and construction feasibility

  • Liaise with clients to provide updates and support throughout the project lifecycle

  • Take on project management responsibilities, ensuring deadlines and deliverables are met

  • Assist with social media tasks, including content coordination and showcasing design work

Requirements

  • 2+ years' of experience in residential and commercial design

  • Strong understanding of construction methods, building materials, and design principles

  • Ability to read and interpret architectural and design plans

  • Proven experience managing multiple projects in a fast-paced environment

  • Highly organized with exceptional attention to detail

  • Strong written and verbal English communication skills

  • Advanced proficiency in PowerPoint and Excel

  • Experience with AutoCAD, SketchUp (plus), or similar design tools

  • Experience with Photoshop (plus)

  • Familiarity with rendering workflows and collaboration with visualization teams

  • Previous experience supporting project management within a design or construction environment
